Custom Structures and Interiors
I put the same care and level of craftsmanship that goes into my furniture, into anything I create. I can provide everything from design work and 3D CAD models to the erection and finish work of your next project.
For this outdoor kitchen, the client requested a modern look with Japanese inspired details and lots of wood. It can be a challenge to keep things looking crisp and modern with so much wood, but the client and I were very pleased with the outcome.
Outdoor Kitchen in San Ramon CA
Having a sawmill allows me to bring my clients’ design opportunities they could not get with off the shelf lumber. Seen here in the ceiling are redwood boards 11” wide and 15’ long, almost the full ceiling span. It makes for a bold look where the ceiling really becomes the showpiece of the entire space.
The massive columns were treated in a traditional method called yakisugi, which involves burning the surface, then burnishing back and oiling. It shows off the grain and in sunlight gives the wood an almost metallic sheen. It has an added benefit of increasing the wood’s resistance to rot and insects.
Timber Framed Entry Gates
The client wanted a four post entryway into his backyard, with custom gates, as well as a 2 post entryway and gates leading from the road to his yard. These sturdy, traditional timber framed entryways are what I came up with. No screws, just solid classic joinery techniques.
Retaining Wall Design
Berkeley Hills CA
So often retaining walls are strictly utilitarian, or at best, the client has the standard 2 or 3 uninspired designs to choose from. I designed this retaining wall to be sleek and strong as well as an attractive addition to their outdoor space. I supplied the custom milled redwood inserts as well.
